Pack light, travel comfortably: safari essentials

A few useful layers and a well-chosen day bag go a long way. Start with what you’ll use, rather than everything you might need.

Pack for the trip you have booked

Your packing list should follow your itinerary. A lodge safari, a walking adventure, and a coast extension call for different choices. Check your booking information and ask about any luggage limits, particularly when your journey includes a small aircraft. Confirm those limits for your specific flights before packing.

Choose layers you can use together

Comfortable clothing that works in layers gives you options as the day changes. Think about what you will wear on a drive, during a meal, and while resting at your accommodation. Repeating a few useful pieces can be easier than packing a separate outfit for every activity.

Keep a small day bag ready

Have the things you use regularly within reach: your camera, a spare battery, a hat, and a light layer. Binoculars can add to the experience if you have them. Ask what is provided on your trip, including drinking water, so you can avoid carrying unnecessary extras.

Leave space for the journey

A bag that closes easily is a good place to start. Choose footwear you already find comfortable and keep your essential travel documents accessible. If your itinerary includes a specialist activity, request the operator’s packing guidance rather than relying on a general list.
